I have been a certified Holy Yoga Instructor since 2010. It has been amazing to be able to lead women in faith and fitness. It was truly a blessing. I taught until I felt called away from it in 2018 and began an office job where I sat all day. I noticed that as my work day increased my yoga practice dwindled. My body didn’t feel too bad at first but over the course of a year, I started to see and feel the difference in my body. And ever since then, my workouts have been a hit or miss.

Staying on track

Staying on track is probably one of the hardest things about working out. I stay on track for a while and get my workouts in and then something happens. It could be a vacation, holiday, or a busy work week and before I know it it’s been two weeks and I haven’t worked out at all. I can’t be alone in this.

2023 Goals

For 2023, I set one goal for the year. Simply, work out 10 minutes a day. That was it. Ten minutes a day and I could do whatever I wanted as long as it was a workout.

My Success Rate

With no pressure, just 10 minutes of exercise I was shocked to see what happened next. I started craving longer workouts. So I did 10 minutes in the morning and then 10 minutes in the evening. After a while that became easy so I upped my morning workout to 15 minutes, then 20 minutes. And now I just work out and don’t think about the length of time that I am working out for. I now crave working out every day again.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

I love this verse from the bible, “Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NLT).

This verse is what I based my Holy Yoga ministry on for eight years. It’s time to get back to this. I am refocusing WHY I work out and WHY I take care of myself.

I recently read 100 Days to Brave By Annie Downs and one thing she said in one of the devotionals really resonated with me, She said, ” Brave people exercise and see it as obedience to God.” I love this, it hangs on my wall over my desk so I never forget it.

She also said, “Brave people look at the bodies they are in and choose to see them for what they are- vessels that hold a mighty God.” This also hangs on the wall over my desk.

Your reason to exercise shouldn’t be to be a smaller size or to fit into a piece of clothing. Your why should be to honor your body. The Holy Spirit lives in us, we are a temple of the Holy Spirit so we should take care of our bodies for this reason.
